Waste Dumps and Stockpiles
Piteau Associates offers geotechnical services relating to the investigation and design of waste dumps and stockpiles for open pit mines, including the design of rock drains under these structures. Performance reviews, and geotechnical audits of waste dumps and stockpiles, and the design of remedial measures are also included within our scope of services.
Our team of geotechnical specialists has considerable experience in waste dump design studies for the full range of project development stages, including:
• Conceptual / scoping
• Detailed design
Our geotechnical personnel are experienced in evaluating challenging foundation conditions (soft foundations soils, steep topography) and complex dump configurations. Field investigations for many of these projects often include airphoto interpretation, reconnaissance, test pitting, soils drilling and sampling, as well as laboratory testing.
Stability analyses typically include static and pseudo-dynamic methodologies and, where necessary, more advanced dynamic and deformation analyses. In most instances, dumps and stockpiles are evaluated in several progressive phases of development to verify the stability of the structure during and following mining.
